What is an Independent Contractor?
Independent contractors are freelance professionals who come in to help us out on a project-by-project basis. They are not Filmhub full-time employees, but they bring in specialized skills for a specific time. It’s a smart way to get quick expert help for projects that don’t need
How to Hire an Independent Contractor?
- Outline the Project
- Get super clear on what you need: the project’s goals, tasks, and what you expect to get done. This helps avoid any confusion down the road.
- Budget, Timeline, and Payment
- Decide how much you are willing to spend and when you need things done. Also, sort out payment details: how much they will get paid, when, and if there are any extra expenses.
- Get the Green Light
- Before moving forward, run your project plan, budget, and payment terms by your direct manager or @Alan d'Escragnolle for approval. We want to make sure everything is set before you start hiring.
- Find and Hire Your Contractor
- Once you get the approval, start your search! Look through referrals, job boards, or professional networks. We often use Upwork to find independent contractors. Reach out to @Simone de Leuw to get added to our Upwork account.
- Check out their work samples and have a chat with them to see if they’re a good fit.
- When you find the right person, send all the details (see guidelines here: ‣) to @Simone de Leuw so she can handle the agreement and onboarding through Rippling.
- Upworkers are handled through the platform directly and don’t require a Filmhub offer letter
- Set Timelines and Check-Ins
- Create a project timeline with clear deadlines and milestones. Keep an eye on the progress to make sure everything is on track.
- Communication is Key
- Agree on how often and through which channels you communicate with your independent contractor. Make sure they know how to report progress and bring up any issues. Regular feedback helps keep things smooth.
- Payment and Invoicing
-
Independent contractors are paid based on milestones. They email their invoices to the Hiring Manager and @Simone de Leuw. Once the invoice is approved by the Hiring Manager, @Simone de Leuw will process the payment via our payroll system Rippling
